Honoring Libby Mila Lubinger

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Libby Lubinger. Founder of the Fairmount Spanish Dancers, Libby was involved with Fairmount Center for the Arts from the beginning. Libby choreographed extensively and served as the Fairmount's Dance Director for much of its 53-year history, bringing the joy of dance to countless lives.

Libby studied Spanish dance with such distinguished artists as Estelle Steinberg, Pascual Olivera, María Alba, José Greco, Nana Lorca, Teodoro Morca, La Conja, Ciro, La Cintia, Ramon Barrul, Carlota Santana and Ilisa Rosal. She attended flamenco workshops with Ethan Margolis, Cihtli Ocampo, Marija Temo and Ulrika Frank. In 1990, Libby received the Cervantes Award from Cleveland State University for her contribution to Spanish culture.

Libby and the Lubinger family’s dedication to Fairmount Center for the Arts has been unparalleled. Her legacy continues on at Fairmount with the Spanish Dance Company, now under the direction of Saundra Bohl, and the studio bearing her name on our second floor. Fairmount also honored her service with the Libby Lubinger Scholarship in 2019. Donations can be made to Fairmount in Libby’s name by clicking HERE.
